Computer and Other Facilities
In addition to laboratory and field equipment, the Institute also possesses pertinent facilities for implementation of academic programmes. These include a computer laboratory capable to hold at least 20 students at a time and one of the computers is specialised for computing. The Institute owns various computer software for modelling purposes, e.g. Regional Ocean Modelling Systems (ROMS), Surface Water Modelling Systems (SMS), The Danish Hydraulic Institute (DHI) software for Water and Environmental Modelling (MIKE 21), MATLAB (www.mathworks.com) and remote sensing analysis software (BILKO). The institute has all necessary Information and Communication Technology installations, a museum, an aquarium and a well stocked library.

The institute is assured of some financial support for supporting postgraduate studies through the Sida-SAREC Marine Science Programme. The 15 years World Bank supported project (Coral Reef Target Research) also provides support for postgraduate students in the area of coral reef and related sciences.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
This is a unit that will be responsible for Library and ICT related activities, GIS, and the Tanzania National Oceanographic Data Centre (TzNODC) and the Marine Education Extension Development (MEED) unit. The library holdings include standard marine science textbooks, scientific journals and manuals as well as online journal subscription, which have so far supported the current volume of postgraduate research students and visiting scientists and students. The TzNODC is responsible for the collection of oceanographic data throughout the country, storing and disseminating information to all national users. The MEED unit is responsible for audio-visual dissemination and integration of research findings. Click here to view MEED facilities.
