Welcome to the Website of the Institute of Marine Sciences (IMS). The IMS was established in 1978 with the mandate to conduct research and offer postgraduate and undergraduate training and consultancy services in all aspects of marine sciences. Our vision is to become a centre of excellence in the advancement of knowledge in marine science.

On this website we provide not only information about the organization and general functioning of the Institute but also about our research programmes, postgraduate training programmes, and milestones. The Institute is the National Oceanographic Data Centre and you will find information on ocean data and information management in Tanzania and links to other databases.

We hope the information offered here is important to the scientific community, people seeking training in marine science and the general public and open up another channel of interaction with IMS.
